Creating a Carbon Neutral Solution.

Updated: Sep 9, 2020

Using renewable sources of energy in our workplace.

As we approach our next milestone of offering all our training solutions online, I thought it would be good to analyse how we get our energy and how we can help an organisation to reduce its carbon footprint.

Our Evance R 9000 5 kW Wind Turbine

At Erisort Risk Management we try to produce our energy from renewable sources. Our aim with this is to reduce our carbon footprint, and feed back any unused energy into the national grid. The source of our renewable energy is our 5 kW wind turbine. This supplies us with our energy, with any excess being fed back into the network. On average, each year we produce an annual energy yield of almost 20,000 kWh.

This, along with our range of online training solutions means that we can offer a carbon efficient method of delivering our services.

By delivering training and consultancy online and reducing the need for students to attend a training centre, we can help to reduce the amount of carbon produced through traditional training methods.

Our turbine may be small, but for us it's an essential element in how we help to reduce our energy use, provide a clean source of fuel and diversify our supply.

Reducing travel can have a major impact on reducing your carbon footprint.

From April to December 2019, I personally travelled over 68,000 miles, equivalent to 2.7 times around the world. Almost all of this travel was work related and whilst for the most part my travelling to a client location reduced the need for more people to travel for training, the reality is that we need to do more to reduce the amount of travel further.

So far, this year I've travelled 18,000 miles and the total for the year will likely be a third of the distance travelled last year. Most of the reduction is down to travel restrictions due to Covid-19, but those restrictions have driven industry, society and Erisort Risk Management to create solutions that would have previously been considered impossible. E-Sim our online Major Emergency Management Training Simulator is an example of this.

Doing more whilst reducing our carbon impact

As we continue to face uncertainties around travel and as we continue to work toward net-zero targets, our range of services can help to develop people, maintain competence and provide you with competent staff whilst reducing your carbon footprint.
